I had just turned 19 and was home from college for the summer. My Mom was working on these white pineapple squares to make what was supposed to be a king sized spread. She showed me how to single crochet and double crochet. After that she gave me an afghan pattern and some bright cherry red yarn. That’s mainly how I’ve learned to crochet, if you make afghans you’ll learn the most common stitches and some of the techniques to create different effects. The hard part for me is taking those techniques and figuring out to use them in different ways to create the idea I have in my head.
My favorite items to create seems to change all the time. It seems I get an idea that I want to try out and make a bunch of variations on that idea before I move on to the new favorite. Right now I’m really into make purses and jewelry. The purses started out as little makeup bags and then I started thinking bigger. I just love how the pattern and the color of the outside stands up to the surprisingly bold and colorful fabric of the lining. Jewelry is always fun to play around with because you can lay everything out and change up the design before you put everything together. It’s not like working with yarn where you have to have a game plan before you start or you’re going to be pulling everything apart and starting all over again.
Most of my ideas come from seeing something and wondering how its constructed. Once I start thinking about it I’ll get an idea to try out something. I try to draw out my ideas so I won’t forget them later when I have a chance to try them out. There have been a few times that I’ve come up with the idea and how to construct it in the middle of the night when I was half asleep. Unfortunately not everything works out the way I see it in my mind. I have this idea in there right now that involves different silver chain and some cotton thread. So far the attempts at making it come to life haven’t worked out. There’s a lot of trial and error to my madness.

I think you’ll agree that she is meticulous in design and very creative. I am happy to share this giveaway with you at the perfect season for it- summer.I hope you are as interested in wearing this down by the seashore as I am!
